Debate Grows Over Freedom Of Speech, Religion: Europe

Freedom of Speech is the concept and beliefs that each citizen is allows to speak freely without any censer-ship. It is core and integral part of our modern liberal democracy in which we live. Freedom of Speech is guaranteed under many international law notably notably under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights. It sad to see that no one care to stand for the Robert Redeker. Only fault of Mr.Redeker is he used his right “Freedom of Speech”. Are we loosing our Western identity as continent of Liberal Democratic where we have guaranteed Freedom of Speech and Expression?

PRAGUE, October 3, 2006 (RFE/RL) — In France, a philosophy teacher is in hiding, the target of death threats, after publishing a commentary in a national newspaper denouncing Islam as a violent religion.

Leading French intellectuals have already compared the case of Robert Redeker to that of British writer Salman Rushdie 15 years ago. But Redeker’s editors, unlike Rushdie’s, are not standing by the embattled intellectual.

A day after Redeker’s critical commentary appeared in “Le Figaro” on September 19, the newspaper’s editor went on Arabic Al-Jazeera television to apologize, saying publishing the piece had been a mistake.

In Berlin, meanwhile, the head of the Deutsche Oper, the German capital’s leading opera house, has cancelled an avant-garde Mozart production over security fears.

Cameron Diaz gave holidaymakers on the Spanish island of Majorca “a vacation that was worth every penny spent,” when she stripped off for a fashion shoot on the beach.

The actress gave other sunbathers quite a view of her bare breasts when she changed from a grey chiffon skirt to a white bikini, and then later into skin-tight black hotpants.

“Almost every time Cameron changed her clothes we got a flash of boob,” Newsoftheworld quoted one sunbather, as saying..

Traditional marriage vows ‘could be used to justify wife beating’

As far as I know and I am sure any other normal human being also knows that beating a women can not be justified in any religion or in any court. Who ever beats women whether she is Wife, Sister, Mother or Aunt they are evil. Guys who thinks religions allows them to beat women are dumb, because even if we think in normal way we know that from our heart that beating women can not be justified in any circumstances.

The traditional marriage vows in which the bride promises to “obey” her husband could be used by men to justify domestic violence, a Church of England report said yesterday.

The report, backed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, accused the Church of failing at “many points” to prevent abuse.

It said that theological ideas such as male “headship” had been enshrined in the marriage service and could be misinterpreted as supporting the idea that the wife should submit to the husband.

British Asians or British Hindu?

HINDUS living in Britain do not want to be described as “Asian”, according to a big government sponsored research in Britain. Instead, they want to be known as British Indian, British Hindu — or even Desi, a Hindi word growing in popularity with the young that means being rooted in one’s home country.

UK Hindus want to be called `British Hindus’ or `British Indians’

By Mike Lockey, London, Sept 25: Government-sponsored research in Britain has revealed that Hindus in the UK prefer to be called “British Hindus” or “British Indians” rather than “British Asians”.

As a result of these findings, some leading British Asians, amongst them being the novelist Hari Kunzru and South Asian Women Unite’s Amrit Wilson, have been reported as saying that the research could foment social divisions between Hindus and Muslims.

Good to see this report and glad to know that UK Government is planning to do some thing for Hindu & Sikh community in UK which is in my opinion is correct and very nice gesture of UK government to help Hindu and Sikh community to easily integrate with British multi faith and multicultural society. Hindus are the country’s third largest religious group, after Christians and Muslims. When ever I listen to radio or watch television, the government of UK is much more concerned about British Muslims, because of this fact other so called Asian community feeling neglected. When ever you watch a program on TV or listen BBC channel about Asian community it’s always shows you Muslim culture, talk about Muslim culture that’s the reason in Britain today Hindu and Sikhs are feeling neglected and alienated.

Like for example if you go to hospital if you are Muslim you will be able to get Halal food, while if you Hindu and vegetarian (or say ‘Vaishnava Hindu) can’t eat food with onion and garlic, you wont be able to get food why? Because people in hospitals, don’t understand about Hindu culture and traditions.

Hindus in Leicester are trying to build crematorium, but till now they haven’t got permission from council, while if you want construct a Mosque you will permission straight away right?
In Leicester Muslims can be buried in their own cemetery within 24 hours to fit in with their religious requirements, while Hindus have been asking for their own crematorium for 20 years.

When government talks about racism they talk Islam phobia and attack against Muslim community, I had never heard they talk about racism again British Hindu and Sikh community why? Hindus and Sikhs are also targeted by some idiot’s racist’s people on every day basis. But no one talks about it? Reason is simple in my opinion, simple you shout and you get noticed if you don’t shout you won’t get noticed.

Britain is multicultural and multi faith country but it doesn’t mean cultural parity. Multiculturalism does give you space and right to follow your own tradition and culture.

So in end it about Identity among Hindus & Sikhs living in UK and in other countries around the world. Hopefully in future we will see some more efforts form governments to help Hindus & Sikhs community so that they can integrate with British community easily and help the country to.

Afzal’s hanging may be put on hold

How the hell people can ask clemency for this terrorist? He has committed serious crime, attacked Indian entity (parliament), Killed innocents Indians. No mercy for this bloody terrorist.

New Delhi, October 3: The execution of Afzal Guru may not take place on October 20 as scheduled as his family filed a mercy petition with President A P J Abdul Kalam in the midst of the raging controversy over a reprieve for the Parliament terror attack convict.

This follows the Home Ministry receiving a copy of the mercy plea from the Rashtrapati Bhawan for scrutiny of all the aspects before it gives its opinion to the President who has to decide whether to grant him clemency, sources said.

The Delhi government and the authorities in Tihar jail, where the execution is slated for October 20, have been informed about the receipt of the mercy petition, a procedure followed in almost in all cases to give adequate time for consideration of the petition, sources said.

Islam World Will Be Relieved If Pope Makes Full Apology, Erdogan

The Islam world will be relieved if the Pope makes a full apology,” Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

So what you people want ?Pope should come to you Bow his Head and Say Sorry Sorry Sorry three time? Rubbish! Pope has already said sorryVatican has issued official Apology. Pope shouldn’t be sorry on very first place because its not his personal views, his remarks was from one context which was said by some one nearly 700 years ago. Some hardcore Muslims leaders are just trying to ignore Vatican clarification and Pope Apology. Instead of creating and bridging the gap, they are busy in creating tension and hatred among each other. Muslim world should forgive and forget the whole unpleasant episode and they must demonstrate by their behavior that their faith really teaches and practice Peace! Stop Blame Game!

On fundamentalism, Erdogan said, “fundamentalism is a problem in every religion. But, there is no fundamentalist threat in Turkey today. Secularism is a system that protects the country and nation against extreme movements. As the government, we are taking measures against extreme movements. Secularism is an insurance for different life styles.”

I agree with you every religion got problems with fundamentalist, but tell me one religion which comes out and start threatening other religions and peoples like Muslims Do? None even Pope said some thing about Buddha too but tell me how many Monks came out and start threatening Pope and Christians? So stop Rubbish grow up and talk sense! How you can say that there is no threat of fundamentalist in Turkey, Only yesterday President Ahmet Necdet Sezer has warned that Islamic Fundamentalists Threat to Turkey. So better don’t Lie!

Spaniards tone down exploding Mohammed at fiestas

So you cant even celebrate or organise a festival because of fear of offending some particular segment of society? Spain hold annual festivals to commemorate the “Reconquista,” the reconquest of Spain by Christians from the Moors, which was completed in 1492 after more than 700 years of Muslim rule in much of the country. This is total Sad, last week Oprah got cancel now this, why the hell we need to change our custom and traditions?

MADRID (Reuters) – Spanish villages are toning down traditional fiestas in which revelers blow up dummies representing the Prophet Mohammed for fear of offending Muslims, the newspaper El Pais reported on Monday.

One eastern Spanish village, Bocairent, decided to abandon the custom of packing the head of a dummy representing Mohammed with fireworks after seeing the angry response by Muslims to a Danish newspaper’s publication last year of cartoons of him.

El Pais found that several other villages in the Valencia region had also modified similar fiestas this year. It carried out the investigation after a Berlin opera house decided last week to cancel performances of Mozart’s “Idomeneo” because the production included a scene depicting Mohammed’s severed head.
